Global Issue Discussion - Ocean Plastics
Thank you Charles for your wonderful GID on ocean plastics! If you missed the presentation and would like to check it out, you can view a video recording of the GID on our Facebook page. Service Projects Service projects this term include CEOAS composting (ongoing project maintained during the first 10min of each meeting), a trail maintenance work day on Saturday, March 3rd starting at 10am at Bald Hill, and a gardening day with Organic Growers Club date/time TBD. Make a dent! Winter Hike If you love waterfalls and love to hike then this is the trip for you! A poll was sent out to the club about what location and day a hike should be planned for. So this term we are going to McDowell Creek Falls which is a beautiful 2 mile loop hike that is scheduled for Saturday February 10th. There will be carpooling which will be planned for at a future meeting. Spring Trip Planning Last year the club went on an amazing camping trip during spring term and we would love to make this an annual tradition! The camping trip is scheduled for Memorial Weekend (May 26-28). We are still looking for reservable campsites in Central/Eastern Oregon with fun activities and hiking locations nearby. If you have any ideas be sure to let us know! Current ideas for locations include Rock Creek Campground, Chimney Rock Campground, Quinn River Campground, and Tumalo Falls State Park. T-shirts Element Graphics will be producing our club merch this term, including t-shirts, sweatshirts, baseball caps, and tote bags.

Service Projects
At the meeting we talked about some service projects the club would like to do this term! Of course the composting project is still a big focus and our next goal is to find a way to expand the project. Our next idea is to plan another day to help the Organic Growers Club at the farm one day this term so keep your eyes open for that event that is always tons of fun. Alec is also in contact with Corvallis parks and rec to plan a trail maintenance for this term. Winter Hike If you love waterfalls and love to hike then this is the trip for you! If you have any awesome t-shirt logo designs, we would love to see it. We are also looking at doing other merchandise for the club this year as well. Composting
Taking the first 15 minutes of every minute to dump the compost bins in the CEOS buildings have been great! We are thinking of taking forward action of allowing people to sign up for compost bins so they can participate. If you have any suggestions on how the club can start this project, bring it up at the meeting! START Leader Presentation Two representatives from the START program are looking for some diversity of majors to be START leaders. If you are interested, follow the link to find out more information and to apply to this paid job opportunity. https://jobs.oregonstate.edu/postings/54036 Goals for the Term Our first goal is to have an outing this term. There was a poll that was sent out to figure out where the club should go hiking and when we should go. Look out for further details about the trip! Our second goal was to have at least 3 Global Issue Discussions so if you would like to do one this term let us know! Our third goal is to do 2-3 service projects this term. There were a lot of ideas at the meeting but we are still looking for new ideas. MLK Jr. Day of Service Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service was heal on Saturday January 13 and there was many projects club members could sign up for. If you would like to learn more about the event, visit the link sli.oregonstate.edu/cce/mlkservice Carbon Foot Print Project This is a service project idea that was suggested during the meeting. It is an amazing project that would be exciting for the club to participate in. If you missed the meeting or would like to learn more, talk to Coral at the next meeting! Lobby Day in Salem There is a workshop in Salem to teach students how to lobby about clean energy jobs and carbon foot printing. There is transportation provided and would be a great way to make a difference in our community and state. |
